FLOW with Equip Interview with Lindsay Miller

5/20/26

Lindsay Miller is the Equip Coordinator for Able SC, and she has started a new type of hangout called FLOW with Equip. Read the following interview between newsletter author Grace Trumpower and Equip Coordinator Lindsay Miller to find out more about the new program.

Grace: Hello, Lindsay. How would you describe FLOW with Equip?

Lindsay: “FLOW with Equip is an open hour program where youth can come in anytime between the hours of 4:00 to 6:00 and they can choose to work with ABLE staff on goals and skill building. They can choose to socially connect with other youth attendees, or they can choose to bring their own project, homework, classwork, guitar, and [FLOW] really functions as…a space where we open the ABLE office to allow youth to use our space in whatever way they need. We provide snacks, drinks, [and] a fully accessible environment.”

Grace: Can you tell me what accommodations are available for the youth?

Lindsay: “So we do low lighting. We offer [Assistive Technology] upon request. So we have headphones. We have voice to text [programs] available upon request. All of our snacks are generally fully allergen friendly. We try to have dye-free drinks as well as drinks with dye.

[FLOW takes place] in our ABLE offices, which are fully accessible for people who use wheelchairs and power chairs. So we hold everything in a space that has double doors so we can open both doors. We [also] have ramp accessibility. Sign language interpreters are available upon request.”

Grace: I noticed that it looks like you have video games. What are some of the other activities that you have for youth to engage in?

“So we always have an art corner where we have…some very fancy art supplies. In the Columbia office, we do decades of music. So everybody picks a decade and then picks a genre and we just kind of explore it together.

We did 2000s light punk last week, which was really fun.

We have some youth who play with our foosball table. We have had foosball tournaments and we’ve done like board game days. So we do a lot. And last week we had someone bring his guitar and practice guitar while he was with us. So that was really cool.”

Grace: It sounds really cool. Thanks for talking with me today.

Lindsay: “Thanks so much, Grace.”
