Able South Carolina (Able SC) is a Center for Independent Living (CIL)– a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability nonprofit that provides an array of independent living services to people of all ages with all types of disabilities. Able SC challenges stereotypes, empowers disability rights, and leads social change. The majority of our staff and board of directors are individuals with disabilities, so we didn’t just learn our mission, we live it every day!
Save the date for our Disability Pride Arts Showcase!
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Disability Pride Art Showcase will bring the disability community across South Carolina and the nation together to express our disability pride creatively! Preference will be given to South Carolinian artists with disabilities, but artists with disabilities across the nation will be considered as well.
Independent living for all means ALL. We strive to be a safe and welcoming space to people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We want all of our consumers to know that they are safe and respected when they are with us!
In honor of Pride Month, we have compiled a list of resources for people with disabilities in the LGBTQ+ community. Some are specific to the disability community, and some are not. Check it out here!
COVID-19 STATEMENT: Able South Carolina continues to work closely with health officials, government agencies, and community organizations to monitor information about the coronavirus (COVID-19). We are taking serious precautions to maintain a safe environment and protect the health and well-being of our consumers, staff, and community. As always, we are committed to being here for our community. Therefore, Able SC’s services are available entirely through remote options.
