As the Director of Public Health and Disability Integration at Able SC, Mandy works to ensure public health programs in South Carolina meet the needs of people with disabilities. She works with healthcare providers, support services, and other organizations to improve access to healthcare, assistive technology, and programs that help people with disabilities live independently. 

Mandy graduated from the University of South Carolina. She earned a certificate in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction from Upstream and completed the SC Diversity Leaders Institute at Furman University. She is a founding member of the nonprofit SC Women in Leadership. 

Mandy holds many leadership roles. She is: 

  • Vice Chair of the SC Department of Mental Health (DMH) State Planning Council 
  • A member of the PAIMI Advisory Council, the DMH 988 Advisory Board, and the SC Roadmap Project – Community Voices Advisory Board 
  • On the Steering Committees for SC 211 and Richland County VOAD 
  • A member of the Rise Up '03 Planning Committee, which works to improve healthcare access in the 29203 area of South Carolina 

Mandy often speaks about disability and health equity at local, state, and national events. At Able SC, she leads both the SC Disability Public Health Task Force and the SC Disability Partners in Disaster Planning Coalition. She was recently interviewed by the New York Times on the importance of emergency planning and preparation for disabled people.  

Two recent successes from Mandy’s department include: 

  1. Launching ongoing disability healthcare trainings for USC School of Medicine students 
  1. Contributing to the rewrite of SC Department of Public Health on-boarding materials to reflect a disability-inclusive perspective 

Mandy is certified in Adult Mental Health First Aid and is a trained Peer Support Specialist. She recently completed training on adaptive parenting for parents with disabilities. She serves on the Boards of the Action Council for Cross-Cultural Mental Health & Human Services and Latino Community Development. 

Mandy is deeply committed to making healthcare fair and accessible for people with disabilities and all marginalized communities.
