As an Independent Living Specialist, Shawna works one-on-one with people with disabilities by empowering them to reach their goals towards independence through employment assistance and independent living skills.

Shawna received her bachelor's and Masters in Social Work from Winthrop University. During graduate school, she worked in Winthrop's Office of Accessibility where she gained experience working with students to put in place accommodations that allowed them to fully participate in their educational and campus life experiences. She also served as Winthrop's Civic Engagement Coordinator, identifying and connecting students to volunteer opportunities on and off-campus.

Outside of work, Shawna enjoys time with her family as the oldest and only girl of four siblings. She finds herself in her hometown of Beaufort often to help her mom run her ice cream truck, sometimes eating the product for "quality assurance."
