Community Work Incentives Coordinator Job Description

Purpose of the position: The Community Work Incentive Coordinator promotes Able SC's WIPA Able to Work program, offering benefits counseling to individuals aged 14 to retirement age, receiving SSA disability-based benefits and working or seeking employment. The role involves providing information on the impact of work on benefits, facilitating access to work incentives, offering referrals to support networks and vocational programs, and addressing benefit-related issues as individuals enter the workforce. This position will build and maintains partnerships, and operates under the delegation of the Lead Community Work Incentives Coordinator

Location: Columbia, SC
Status: Full-time
Hours: 34-40 hours per week. Able SC is currently piloting a four day work week schedule.
Salary Range: $42K-$50K Annually. Based upon experience and qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (with or without reasonable accommodations):

  • Obtains accurate and complete information about benefits, including SSDI, SSI, concurrent (SSDI and SSI), Medicare, Medicaid, private health insurance, subsidized housing, workers compensation benefits, unemployment insurance benefits, and other general assistance administered by Social Security and other federal, state or local programs.
  • Guide benefit programs, work incentives, and employment support services available to people with disabilities.
  • Provide information to beneficiaries on healthcare coverage options that may be available.
  • Provide accurate and detailed written individualized Benefits Summary and Analysis reports and supporting documents while following SSA guidelines.
  • Conduct intakes and assessments and provide case file management and documentation.
  • Submit monthly reports that emphasize WIPA deliverables and outcomes.
  • Screen and refer qualified beneficiaries to the appropriate Employment Network and/or other organizations that provide employment support services.
  • Show knowledge of SSA’s disability-based benefit programs, their work incentives, and other federal, state, and local programs, and communicate this knowledge effectively and easily.
  • Promote employment and financial self-sufficiency.
  • Maintain effective and ongoing communication with Social Security, community partners, verification agencies, and other community-based organizations that serve people with disabilities.
  • Prepare progress reports, correspondence, community announcements, and newsletter articles as requested.
  • Collect information about community resources, bringing new information back to staff and adding to resource databases.
  • Travel to meet consumers and partners in adjoining counties to provide services.
  • Complete continuing education and training necessary to obtain and maintain CWIC certification.
  • Provide presentations and outreach to the community per SSA guidelines.
  • Perform related work as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services or a related field. Relevant experience may be substituted.
  • At least two years of documented experience working with persons with disabilities or personal experience with a disability.
  • Knowledge of disability rights and Independent Living philosophy.
  • Knowledge of the service system, benefits, entitlements and supports utilized by people with disabilities.
  • Experience with working in teams to accomplish goals.
  • Experience in the delivery of presentations and training to groups required.
  • Working knowledge of community resources available to people with disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form with people with disabilities, their families, other organizations, agencies, and volunteers.
  • Must be able to proficiently operate a computer, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet browsers, and various other databases/software.
  • Ability to translate technical information for lay individuals.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to successfully pass Social Security’s security screening requirements and complete the SSA-mandated training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CWIC certification from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish and/or American Sign Language is a plus.
